Aquatic/Environmental Chemist
Aquatic chemists are interested in organic, inorganic, and trace metals found in the water and sediments. They may study the transformation of chemicals by living organisms. They may undertake comparative studies that compare one lake or aquatic system to another. Many aquatic chemists are working with other scientists to study how global warming might affect the carbon cycle. Aquatic chemists may work in wastewater treatment plants, for industries like food or beverage manufacturers that use water in their processes, for state and federal agencies, and as teachers and researchers at universities.
